Insight Carleton Chapter International Development Week Guest Appearance
International Development Week, sponsored by Insight CU, hosted a guest speaker night featuring leaders in the Carleton community who have shown a commitment to innovation in the international development community. Tiana reviewed during this event her businesses and how it is an innovative solution to promote economic growth and environmental sustainability.
Hatch Pitch Night 2021
In January of 2021, Tiana Thomas alongside new co-owner Andrew Kerr, presented Cocoa’s business pitch for the second time, this year, in a virtual setting. Coming forward with new ideas and a strategic business plan, Tiana and Andrew blew away last year’s pitch, this year, being welcomed into the incubator cohort, having fulfilled all of the missing pieces from last year and proving Cocoa has a bright future.
Hatch Pitch Night 2020
In February of 2020, Founder and Co-Owner Tiana Thomas presented her very first business pitch to a panel of judges at the Carleton University Student Association’s Hatch Program’s Pitch Night at Ollie’s Bar in Carleton University's Centre. At this event, Tiana reviewed her idea for Cocoa, but was ultimately rejected from the Hatch Incubator because the business presented a lack of foundation and depth. This critique gave her the challenge she needed to improve her business, and come back stronger for the following year.
TEDxCarletonUniversity Conference
In February of 2020, Founder and Co-Owner Tiana Thomas presented her first TEDx Talk at Carleton University’s Richcraft Hall titled “Flipping the Script: How a Change in Mindset can Change the World”. This speech focuses on the impact of collective action and social justice, discussing how change is not necessarily about the large contribution of one person, but rather about the small contributions of lots of people. While the idea for Cocoa existed before this prior to the presentation of this speech, Tiana’s TEDx talk subject inspired her to take a new outlook on the business, making Cocoa what it is today.
